Going to order some rw soon, the seller sent me a pic of the stuff. I am noticing a sort of stain or discoloration. Is that an issue? Going to disappear with some planing or is it going to look even worse when finished. Thanks!

Alex, the brown areas you're seeing is normal and quite common for IRW. I really like the look of it myself. Check and make sure that the brown areas are apparent on both halves of the set, and both sides of each half, that way you can be sure it's part of the wood and not some other kind of stain. I'll try to find a pic of one of my guitars that has that look.

Rosewood can vary a lot. Order ten sets, send back all you prefer not to build with. Photos can tell you a lot. Vendors are catching on that buyers really like to see what they are buying. In this day and age it's almost expected. Still, hands on inspection is best. Builders who live near a quality source hand pick their woods, sigh.

Nice one Bob.

I remember getting in a dozen sets of rosewood, spreading them all out I call in the family for their opinion. I had my eye on a set of major racing stripe rosewood that I was returning for sure. After viewing and discussing, I kept it all.

Enter my brother, who orders a guitar, searches throuh a stack of rosewood for his commission, er, guess which one he picked, yep, the racing stripe rosewood. "It's different" was his reasoning, he wanted an addy top too, lots of grain and color, "I want it to look like wood." Go figure. All of our straining to get it right, sometimes goes right out the window.....

I agree with the other guys, you most likly won't have an issue with the wood. Doesn't look like a stain in your picture.

I built with a very "colorful" set of EIR on the last guitar. It had shades of purples, olives and browns, look really weird and the guy I bought it from said it was ugly.

Here's what it looked like after finished. Ugly? you decide, I think it turned out great.

Looks great. I like contrast between stripes too, but the guy I'm building for (a friend, my first commission :) ) is very picky. He has another indian backed guitar very dense and dark, probably from some very old stash, and he wants something close to it.

I am buyin both sets, I'll build one from me out of that purple set.

Those are nice looking sets Alex, way to go.

They will really look good under finish.

Any post can be edited, but I think you only have something like 20 minutes to do it in. Then it becomes permanent. I went back to edit something I misspelled a word in, and it was too late.
